Hey /r/musictheory. Forgive me if this topic isn't perfectly related to Music Theory, but I thought that you would probably be the most knowledgeable of the Reddit boards on this topic.
I've just completed 4 years at NYU Gallatin studying the entertainment business, and I've had a great time. Now that I'm equipped with general entertainment business savvy, I want to study music composition for film, TV, & video game so that I can combine that with my business knowledge and pursue a career as a composer. Naturally, I have been hitting the books hard regarding theory and composition, but I want to take my education to the next level.
This brought me to Berklee online. I don't think that I reasonably have the skills or money to attend a top-tier music school in person, especially given the highly risky nature of such an investment. But Berklee online is not terribly expensive, and it comes from a good school.
To those who have experience with this, would you say a Master's Certificate in Music Comp. for Film, TV, & Video Games is worthwhile, especially for someone who is relatively new to composing? Or is it a waste of time and money? I'm also considering the benefits of having the piece of paper from Berklee and the time/guidance in developing a good reel.
